Every 30 seconds a new victim of human trafficking is claimed. 23 million people are forced into human trafficking each year globally. 70% of trafficked individuals are women and children, 30% are men. Trafficking isn't always sexual, trafficking can be using any individual as a means to obtain a goods or money through services. Trafficking can be using a human to work and provide labor without giving them pay. Trafficking can be using a human to work and garnishing their pay. Trafficking can be using a human to smuggle drugs. Trafficking can be using a human for sexual acts in exchange for money or drugs. 90% of individuals know their perpetrator, usually someone that they trust. That can be a close friend, family, or even a partner. In 2003, Washington became the first state to criminalize trafficking, since then, every state has adopted a policy in criminalizing trafficking. There are only 27 states currently that have restitution provided for trafficking survivors. Trafficking is unethical, immoral, dehumanizing, illegal, and must be eradicated!
